Leftists now say "Do it for the kittens"
The kabuki generally runs like this: George Bush proposes some extravagant new executive power, say legal sanction to pull the legs off of kittens. The Democrats reasonably agree (mostly) that pulling legs off of kittens is wrong, but usually lack the party discipline and/or the overall votes to stop the president on their own. Worse, nothing terrifies Democrats more than the thought that somebody might call them soft on terrorism for denying the president the power to deal with the awful kitten leg threat. The thought of David Broder calling them partisan practically reduces Democratic leaders to tears.
Mirabile dictu!, some combination of John McCain, John Warner, Lindsay Graham and Arlen Specter will step up and announce grave, serious concerns about the president delimbing kittens, dangling the possibility of sustaining a kitten-leg filibuster. Hey, Harry Ried says, let’s let these guys take the lead! Take that, David Broder! A month later the very concerned Republicans announce a compromise that looks almost exactly like what the president proposed in the first place. Blue dogs vote GOP, of course, leaving Harry Reid looking like a twice-fooled chump. Kittens lose.
He accuses George W. Bush of wanting to pull the legs off kittens. He accuses Republicans and conservative Democrats of conspiring along with Bush in this kitten-leg-removal nightmare. But this is Tim F's nightmare, not the national nightmare. Tim F. is obsessed with pulling the legs off kittens. That much is clear. He confuses every single Republican proposal with pulling off kitten limbs. The fact that he goes on and on about delimbing kittens demonstrates his obsession with it. Who thinks about pulling the limbs off kittens, without being prompted by some psycho killer wannabe like Tim F.?
What kind of person has those kinds of thoughts? What kind of person confuses pulling the legs off kittens with denying habeas corpus rights to captured enemy fighters who are not now, never were, nor ever shall be American citizens or even residents, and are not even legal combatants entitled to protection under Geneva? What kind of person confuses pulling the legs off kittens with listening to phone calls to or from terrorists or their associates? Only someone who is easily confused could do that: Specifically, only someone who is easily confused between pulling the legs off kittens and other acts that are completely dissimilar to kitten delimbing and also prudent aspects to fighting a war against an enemy that wages war by stealth, infiltration, and subversion of political processes.
Pity poor Tim. Can it really be so hard for him to tell the difference between fluffy meowing kittens and murderous terrorists, or between pulling the legs off an innocent and denying extraordinary legal rights to a gang of murderous foreign brigands who possess the same approximate legal standing as the crew of a pirate ship?
